WHITE CHICK IN A BLACK WORLD

WHITE CHICK IN A BLACK WORLD
White Chick in a Black World is a memoir based on a naïve social worker’s journey working and living with traditional Aboriginal people in the Central Desert Region of Australia between 2011-2019. As a result of this writing, the author is firstly seeking feedback/ consultation with blackfella linked to the communities mentioned throughout the book. The author will be travelling to the Central Desert to provide complimentary copies to Warlpiri, Arrernte and other mob.
The writer will also be seeking feedback/consultation with members of the community as well as key members of government who wield power over decisions around legislation in Australia. My first question: Is the contribution of the ordinary ‘voice’ an anomaly in this country?…
Please note: White Chick in a Black World is an unpublished piece of writing in draft form only. It is not registered with the National Library of Australia. The author assumes that there will be changes to the manuscript after the self-funded consultation process. Crowdfunding is being sought for travel and printing purposes – free copies will be provided to Northern Territory citizens as part of the consultation/feedback process

Why Remote Workers Need Support?
Research reveals that changes – such as geographical and workplace, often forces an individual (and their families) into an arduous ’adjustment’ process. This transition process is characterised by a series of ‘stages’. It can feel harrowing as we move around the stages of change. For some, this transition experience results in “culture shock” with serious physical, emotional and psychological disruption.
Remote Worker Support Service endeavours to support individuals and their families to:-
- Respectfully transition to remote and very remote communities
- Maintain an understanding of the unique culture of the traditional owners of the land/s
- Understand the stages of adaptation
- Ensure that ongoing support is readily available
- To develop an awareness of strengths and weaknesses and how this can impact on cultural transition and burnout
- Develop a respectful bi-cultural framework.
Services include:
- Professional Supervision & General Counselling
- Rapid response telehealth support
